In case you’re new around here, I am Eileen Koff, a Certified Professional Organizer. For over two decades, I’ve been blessed to guide countless men and women on their journey to declutter, organize, and simplify their lives. As a Christian, I begin seeing the link between clutter and disorganization and, your peace, your relationships and your ability to hear from God.
Today, I feel led to share with you this story from Karen. She shared it in our group chat during her journey to overcome the overwhelming clutter in her life.
A Personal Story of Overcoming Clutter
She wrote that she found herself one day, sitting amidst a sea of clutter in her home office, her to-do list growing longer by the minute. The remnants of a decapitated puppy toy lay scattered around her like fresh snow. She felt overwhelmed, almost to the point of tears. But instead of succumbing to the chaos, she chose to pause, pray, and immerse herself in the Word of God. As she shared with me, “…just ten to fifteen minutes of praying and reading the Bible. As a result, I am not only physically strengthened, but my mind has a clear directive of what needs to be done.”
It was in that moment of quiet reflection, in the presence of God, that Karen found the strength and clarity to face the chaos. Her mind became clear, and she knew exactly what she needed to do.
The Power of Inviting God Into Your Organizing Process
Karen’s story is a powerful testament to the importance of inviting God into every area of our lives, including our organizing process. It’s about recognizing the root cause of our clutter and understanding why order in our lives pleases God. It’s about honoring God by taking care of what He has given us on Earth, and understanding that our physical surroundings can reflect our spiritual state.
This is why I felt a deep calling to write my new book, “Get Organized God’s Way: Bring God Into Every Area of Your Life.” This book, builds on and replaces the previous book “Organize His Way: A Christ Centered Approach To Organizing Your Life”. Written as Bible study & Declutter Workbook it’s designed to equip you with the tools and armor you need to create and maintain a clutter-free life. It addresses the root cause of your clutter, enabling transformation from the inside out, starting with the renewal of the mind, followed by practical tips to organize your space, manage paper clutter, and improve time management.
Real Change Happens Slow And Steady: Step by Step
Unlike what you see on TV shows and books about organizing, the journey to transformation in your life is a step by step process. Think marathon, not sprint.
STEP 1 – Begin with prayer and scripture inviting God into the process
STEP 2 – Identify and address the root cause of clutter
STEP 3 – Implement practical tips, tools, and strategies to organize your space and manage your time, and
STEP 4 – Regular check-ins to make adjustments when you find yourself slipping so you can maintain order in your life.
Treating Clutter Not Just As A Physical Problem But A Spiritual One
This isn’t a one-size-fits-all strategy, but a personalized journey. It’s about starting from the inside, identifying why clutter happens, then using scriptures and biblical principles to get to the root issues. The plan encompasses not just physical decluttering, but also spiritual transformation and alignment with God’s will and purpose for your life.
